RX-78-2 Gundam: every kit

Which RX-78-2 Gundam to buy

The RX-78-2 exists in every core grade, from HG up to the PG UNLEASHED of December 2020 on Bandai's Japanese list, so the choice is mostly about budget and how long you want to spend on the build. The low-cost option is the Entry Grade RX-78-2 of May 2021, listed at 700 yen before tax on Bandai's English page and rated for ages 8 and over; Gundam Planet's shop copy counts only 74 parts. Newtype listed it at $9.99 on October 11, 2026.

For a first kit with a wide range of motion, the HGUC 1/144 RX-78-2 of July 2015, sold in shops as HGUC #191 (Revive), is the usual pick at 1,200 yen. Bandai says it has almost the same part count as the 2001 HGUC but more than 1.5 times the moving parts, and it uses wedge gates so cut marks show less. Newtype had the #191 at $14.

The RG RX-78-2 Ver.2.0 (August 2024, 3,500 yen, ages 15 and over) puts an inner frame modelled on a semi-monocoque structure into the same 1/144 size, with a Core Fighter that becomes a Core Block; Newtype listed it at $41. The MG RX-78-2 Ver.3.0 (August 2013, 4,900 yen) is the 1/100 option with eight exterior colours and a movable armour system, at $60.99 from USA Gundam Store. Start with the HGUC unless you already know you want the inner frame.
