Card summarising Bandai's Entry Grade line: 40 items, 28 of them Gunpla, eight regular Gundams, priced 550 to 1,760 yen with tax

Bandai's Entry Grade line has 40 items, and only eight are regular-release Gundams. That makes this Entry Grade Gunpla list short. The harder question is which of the eight you can actually buy: five of the eight were sold out at Gundam Planet on our latest check. Entry Grade is Bandai's 1/144 starter line. For the shortest answer to "which first kit", our best beginner Gunpla kits by budget guide has picks with prices.

TL;DR: Bandai lists 40 Entry Grade items, 28 of them Gunpla. Eight Gundams are in regular release: RX-78-2, Strike, Nu, Lah, Build Strike Exceed Galaxy, Strike Rouge, RX-78F00/E and Wing. Regular Gunpla EG items cost 550 to 1,760 yen with tax in Japan and about $10 to $17 at Gundam Planet. Five of the eight were sold out there. Checked Oct 11, 12 and 14, 2026.

Verdict: Pick the EG RX-78-2 for a first kit: $9.95 and in stock. Want another suit? Pick by stock, not by ranking. Skip the limited versions unless you want a specific color.

Key Takeaways

  • 40 Entry Grade items on Bandai's Japanese list, 28 of them Gunpla.
  • Eight regular Gundams, from the RX-78-2 (May 2021) to the Wing Gundam (October 2025).
  • 13 limited Gunpla EG items: 6 Gundam Base, 4 event, 2 Gundam Side-F and 1 Premium Bandai.
  • 12 non-Gundam EG kits, including Kirby, Doraemon, Naruto and Kamen Rider.
  • Stock is the problem in the US. At Gundam Planet on Oct 14, the RX-78-2, RX-78F00/E and Wing were in stock; the other five were not.

Overview: what counts as an Entry Grade kit

Card summarising Bandai's Entry Grade line: 40 items, 28 Gunpla, eight regular Gundams, regular Gunpla EG priced 550 to 1,760 yen with tax Graphic: PlamoDesk. Data: Bandai Hobby Site (Japan) item list, checked October 11, 2026.

Entry Grade (EG) is Bandai's 1/144 starter grade. Wikipedia's Gunpla article says Bandai first sold an Entry Grade line in Southeast Asia in 2011 and rebooted it worldwide in 2020; on Bandai's Japanese list, the current non-Gundam EG kits start in March 2020 and the Gunpla EG kits in December 2020. Bandai's own pages present the EG Gundams as a numbered series of first kits for a new generation: the Strike Gundam is the second installment, the Nu Gundam the third.

The design goal shows on the item pages. The EG Wing Gundam page lists touch gates you can remove by hand without nippers, no stickers needed thanks to the parts division, and a wide range of motion with fewer parts. Bandai marks every EG kit we checked for ages 8 and up.

Bandai's Japanese item list files 40 items under its two Entry Grade brand filters. 28 are Gunpla. Our Entry Grade kit list shows them all with current prices.

Desk note: All eight regular EG Gundams were listed at Gundam Planet on Oct 14, and five of them were sold out. A $10 kit is cheap. Finding one is the hard part.

1. Entry Grade RX-78-2 Gundam

The original. A cheaper "light package" version in a plastic bag came first, in December 2020, at ¥500 before tax with 67 parts and no weapons, according to Bandai. A Full Weapon Set version followed in December 2021.

2. Entry Grade Strike Gundam

  • Japan: ¥700 before tax, January 2022 (Official images)
  • US: $10.95 at Gundam Planet, sold out; its "Ecopla" version, also $10.95, was in stock

Comes with a beam rifle and shield, and Bandai says it reproduces the colors by assembly alone, with no stickers. A light package version (¥500, 79 parts) came out in December 2021.

3. Entry Grade Nu Gundam

  • Japan: ¥1,000 before tax, April 2022 (Official images)
  • US: $14.95 at Gundam Planet, sold out

Uses a marking sticker for the shoulder and shield emblems. Our Nu Gundam kit comparison puts it next to the other seven Nu kits.

4. Entry Grade Lah Gundam

  • Japan: ¥1,000 before tax, October 2023 (Official images)
  • US: $14.95 at Gundam Planet, sold out

The lead suit of GUNDAM BUILD METAVERSE. Bandai says no stickers are required.

5. Entry Grade Build Strike Exceed Galaxy

7. Entry Grade RX-78F00/E Gundam

  • Japan: ¥1,320 with tax, April 2025 (Official images)
  • US: $16.95 at Gundam Planet, in stock

8. Entry Grade Wing Gundam

  • Japan: ¥1,000 before tax, October 2025 (Official images)
  • US: $12.95 at Gundam Planet, in stock; $11.99 on sale (regular $12.99) and in stock at USA Gundam Store

The newest regular EG Gundam. Bandai lists touch gates and no stickers required.

Ukiyo-e package versions (2026)

In late August 2026, Bandai added Ukiyo-e package versions of three EG kits: the RX-78-2 and Strike Gundam at ¥1,430 with tax and the Wing Gundam at ¥1,760. Bandai's Japanese pages call them limited packages, though they carry no store label on its item list, so we count them with the 15 unlabelled items above.

Limited Entry Grade kits

Bar chart of the 28 Gunpla Entry Grade items by sale label: 15 regular release, 6 Gundam Base limited, 4 event limited, 2 Gundam Side-F limited, 1 Premium Bandai Diagram: PlamoDesk. Data: sale labels on Bandai Hobby Site (Japan) item list, checked October 11, 2026.

13 of the 28 Gunpla EG items carry a limited label. Gundam Base versions are the largest group with six, mostly painted or special-color versions of regular EG kits such as the RX-78-2, Strike Gundam and Nu Gundam. There are four event versions, two Gundam Side-F kits (an RX-93ff Nu Gundam and an Axis Shock color Nu) and one Premium Bandai set: an EG Nu Gundam with fin funnels in a recirculation color, dated June 2026.

Their labels tie them to Bandai's own stores, events and online shop in Japan. Our exclusives tracker follows them by year.

Entry Grade outside Gundam

Bar chart of all 40 Entry Grade items by franchise: Gundam 28, and two each for Dragon Ball Super, Kamen Rider, Ultraman, Detective Conan and Naruto, one each for Doraemon and Kirby Diagram: PlamoDesk. Data: Bandai Hobby Site (Japan) item list, Entry Grade brand, checked October 11, 2026.

12 Entry Grade items are not Gundams at all. The first, from March 2020, were Dragon Ball Super's Goku and Vegeta and Kamen Rider Zero-One. Doraemon, Ultraman Zero, Kamen Rider Saber, Detective Conan (plus a Conan set with an HG Zaku II), Kirby, Naruto and Sasuke, and the Ultraman from Ultraman: Rising followed through July 2024.

Some are easy to find in the US. On Oct 12, Gundam Planet had the EG Doraemon and EG Kamen Rider Saber at $10.95 and the EG Kirby and EG Ultraman Zero at $12.95, all in stock. For a young child, a Gundam Planet customer, Travis F., described the EG Kirby in August 2021: "This kit is very simple, only 12 parts, and won't take an adult more than a couple minutes".

What builders say about EG

From customer reviews on Gundam Planet's EG RX-78-2 page, read Oct 12:

  • shiruki (June 2024): "A quick and easy build, doesn't have a lot of detail but great for a first gundam."
  • isantcpell (October 2023), who started with an RG: "I would definitely recommend starting off with an Entry Grade or High Grade such as this one".

Analysis: which EG to buy

  1. Cheapest and easiest to find: the EG RX-78-2, $9.95 in stock at Gundam Planet on Oct 14.
  2. A newer design: the Wing Gundam or RX-78F00/E. The Wing was in stock at USA Gundam Store at $11.99; the RX-78F00/E at Gundam Planet at $16.95.
  3. A favorite suit: the Nu, Strike or Strike Rouge, if you can find one in stock. All three were out of stock at the shops we checked, apart from Gundam Planet's Ecopla Strike.
  4. A kid who does not care about Gundam: Kirby or Doraemon, both in stock at Gundam Planet.

Our take

Start with the EG RX-78-2: $9.95 at Gundam Planet, and in stock. It was the cheapest EG we found in stock in the US. Builders call it quick and light on detail, which is the point of a first kit. Want a different suit? Pick by stock, not by ranking. On Oct 14, the RX-78-2, RX-78F00/E and Wing Gundam were in stock at Gundam Planet, and the Wing was also in stock at USA Gundam Store. Gundam Planet also had an Ecopla Strike. Skip the limited versions unless you want a specific color or package.

How we checked this

On October 11, 2026 we pulled every item under Bandai's two Entry Grade brand filters from its Japanese item list, with sale labels and current prices with tax. On Oct 12 we read the English item pages of the EG RX-78-2, its light package, Strike Gundam and its light package, Nu Gundam, Lah Gundam, Build Strike Exceed Galaxy, Strike Rouge and Wing Gundam. We also read the Japanese pages of the RX-78F00/E, Full Weapon Set and the three Ukiyo-e versions. US prices come from Gundam Planet and USA Gundam Store listings, re-read on Oct 14 including sold-out items, Entry Grade history from Wikipedia's Gunpla article, and quotes from Gundam Planet's review sections.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many Entry Grade Gunpla kits are there? Bandai's Japanese item list had 28 Entry Grade Gunpla items on Oct 11, covering eight different Gundams in regular release. The rest are package variants, an option parts set and limited editions. Counting non-Gundam lines such as Kirby and Doraemon, the Entry Grade brand has 40 items.

What was the first Entry Grade Gunpla? In its current form, the RX-78-2 Gundam. Bandai's list dates the light package RX-78-2 to December 19, 2020 and the full RX-78-2 to May 2021. Wikipedia notes an earlier Entry Grade line sold in Southeast Asia from 2011, which Bandai rebooted worldwide in 2020.

Do Entry Grade kits need tools? Most are designed not to. Bandai's EG pages describe touch gates that come off by hand without nippers, and several, such as the Strike Gundam, Lah Gundam and Wing Gundam, need no stickers. A nipper still gives cleaner results, but it is optional for these kits.

What is the newest Entry Grade Gunpla? The newest regular Entry Grade Gundam is the Wing Gundam, released in October 2025 at 1,000 yen before tax. In August 2026 Bandai added Ukiyo-e package versions of the RX-78-2, Strike and Wing Gundam.

How much are Entry Grade kits in the US? About $9 to $17. On Oct 14, Gundam Planet listed the EG RX-78-2 at $9.95, the Wing Gundam at $12.95 and the RX-78F00/E at $16.95 in stock, while the Nu Gundam ($14.95) and Strike Rouge ($10.95) were among five sold out. USA Gundam Store had the Wing Gundam at $11.99 in stock.
