What Entry Grade is
Wikipedia dates the first Entry Grade line to 2011 as a low-cost model series; the kits in Bandai's current Entry Grade filters start in 2020. The Gundam EG kits are 1/144, the same size as HG. Bandai's English hobby guide says some items, including Entry Grade, do not need any tools, and the item page for the EG Wing Gundam (October 2025) lists touch gates that can be removed by hand without pliers and says no stickers are required.
Bandai called the EG RX-78-2 of May 2021 "the first GUNPLA of the next generation" and says it needs no paint or stickers; the EG Nu Gundam of April 2022 was the third installment of that "Next Generation First GUNPLA" idea. Not every EG skips stickers, though: the item pages for the Nu Gundam and the EG Strike Rouge (January 2025) list a marking sticker in the box. Bandai's tagline for the Strike Rouge is "easy assembly × high quality".
Price and age rating
EG is the low-cost way to get a 1/144 Gundam. Bandai's English item pages list the EG RX-78-2 Gundam at 700 yen, the EG Strike Rouge at 800 yen and the EG Wing Gundam and EG Nu Gundam at 1,000 yen, all before tax. In the United States on October 11, 2026, Newtype listed the EG RX-78-2 at $9.99 and USA Gundam Store had the EG Strike Rouge on sale at $8.99 (regular $10.99). Bandai rates all four for ages 8 and over.
Bandai sells EG under two brand filters on its Japanese site and this hub counts both: one for Gundam kits, one for other characters such as Doraemon, Kirby and Kamen Rider. Gundam Base and event editions sit in the same filters and are marked in the Sold via column.
Who should buy an EG
EG suits a first kit for anyone unsure they will like the hobby, a younger builder, or a quick build between bigger projects. Gundam Planet's shop copy counts only 74 parts in the EG RX-78-2. Buyers disagree on how well the kits hold up: one Newtype reviewer wrote that the EG RX-78-2 "would be a fantastic first kit to hook someone", while another said theirs became too floppy to pose within a month or two. The lineup is much smaller than HG, so your favourite suit may not have an EG. When you are ready for more detail and articulation at the same size, move to HG; the HG list is many times longer.
