Gunpla Gift Ideas for 2026: 7 Picks From $3.99 to $62

Gunpla gift ideas for 2026: seven tools, stands and kits with US prices and stock at three shops, and when two kits due in Japan this fall reach the US.

TL;DR: For a first-timer, the Bandai Spirits Entry Tool Set ($20.00) plus the HG 1/144 Gundam Aerial ($18.95) came to $38.95 at Gundam Planet. For a builder, the GodHand SPN-120 nipper ($61.75 at Newtype) or a $3.99 pour-type panel line marker. The one December Japan kit we checked, the MG Liberty Astray Red Frame, was estimated for January 2027 or later at two US shops. Checked Oct 31 and again Nov 1, 2026, with no price or stock change.

Every one of these seven gifts was in stock at a US shop, yet no single shop had all seven. For Gunpla gift ideas that land, give tools to someone who already builds, and a tool set plus one High Grade kit to someone who has not.

What are good Gunpla gift ideas this year? (quick answer)

Buy something a US shop has in stock now. The two upcoming kits we checked carry US estimates of December 2026 and 2027, while all seven picks below were orderable at one shop or more on Oct 31. For someone with a shelf of kits, a tool avoids guessing which kits they already own.

Overview: how we chose the seven gifts

We kept items that work for a buyer who does not build: no paint, no airbrush, nothing that needs a second purchase to be useful. Each pick has an official page (Bandai's English item page, or GodHand's for the nipper) and at least one US listing we opened ourselves. If you want a kit list sorted by budget for someone choosing their own, our best beginner Gunpla kits by budget covers nine of them.

Desk note: Across the 15 shop listings for these seven picks on Oct 31, ten were in stock, two were pre-orders and three could not be ordered. Gundam Planet had five of the seven in stock and USA Gundam Store four. Check a second shop before you give up on an item.

The age mark matters more for a gift than for your own shelf. Bandai prints one on its item pages, and only the Full Mechanics kit here says 15 and over. Our Gunpla grades explained guide covers what HG, RG and MG mean if the box letters are new to you.

Gunpla gift ideas for someone who has never built

A first kit needs one tool before anything else: a nipper to cut parts off the plastic frame, called the runner. These two picks cover that and the kit.

1. Bandai Spirits Entry Tool Set

This is Bandai's own beginner set: an Entry Nipper in blue, a pair of tweezers and a parts separator, at ¥1,300 before tax in Japan since January 2023 (official page). The tweezers place stickers. The separator pulls apart two parts pressed together by mistake, and Bandai made both in resin so they do not scratch the plastic. It was $20.00 in stock at Gundam Planet and $21.99 in stock at USA Gundam Store on Oct 31. Gundam Planet's listing has one odd line: it asks buyers to ignore that "separator" is misspelled on the plastic.

GODEEPER: If you want to know what each tool does before you wrap it, we cover the first four in buying order. Gunpla Tools for Beginners →

2. HG 1/144 Gundam Aerial

The lead mobile suit of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury, as a High Grade kit at ¥1,600 before tax, released October 2022 (Official images). Its shield splits into 11 small units, and Bandai lets the builder choose a lit or unlit look for the shell unit panels during assembly. Gundam Planet had it at $18.95 in stock, with 44 reviews averaging 5 stars. USA Gundam Store sold it at $17.99 as a pre-order, estimated to arrive Nov 3. It uses stickers, so the tweezers from pick 1 get used on day one.

Why not an Entry Grade kit on its own? Bandai's EG pages say the parts twist off by hand with no nippers. That makes EG a fine first kit but a thin gift. Nothing is left to use once it is built.

Gunpla gifts for someone who already builds

Here a kit is the risky choice, because you cannot tell which boxes on the shelf they already built. Tools have no duplicate problem. A better nipper is a common ask: the August r/Gunpla thread quoted below started with one.

3. GodHand GH-SPN-120 Ultimate Nipper

A single-blade nipper from a Japanese tool maker, about 120 mm long and 60 g, sold with a cap. GodHand lists it at ¥6,490 with tax (maker page). Three replies in one r/Gunpla gift thread named it for a buyer with a $100 budget. On Oct 31 it was $61.75 in stock at Newtype, $62.00 in stock at Gundam Planet, and out of stock with no restock date at USA Gundam Store. The catch is in GodHand's own limits: plastic only, up to 3 mm thick. We compared it with GodHand's cheaper Blade One in our single blade nipper guide.

4. Gundam Marker GM301 pour type, black

A liquid panel line marker: touch the tip to a groove and the ink runs along it, so the molded lines show. At $3.99 in stock at USA Gundam Store it is the cheapest gift here. Gundam Planet's listing calls the pour type an oil-based pen and warns it cannot be used on painted parts, so check that the person builds without paint. Gundam Planet listed the black, gray and brown pour types at $4.00, none of them available to order on Oct 31. Which color suits which part is in our panel lining guide.

5. GMS105 Gundam Marker Basic Set

Six Gundam Markers in one pack, for touching up color on small details without paint or an airbrush. USA Gundam Store had it at $22.99 in stock. Gundam Planet listed it at $18.95 but sold out. The set mixes colors and tip types, and our guide to Gundam Marker types says which marker does what.

6. Action Base 2, black

Bandai's display stand for 1/144 kits, at ¥450 before tax since 2007 (official page). It lets a kit pose off the ground, mid-jump or mid-flight, and Bandai's page says the post adjusts in height and angle. It was $7.95 in stock at Gundam Planet and $7.99 in stock at USA Gundam Store. It is sized for 1/144, and our Gunpla stands guide lists the other sizes.

A bigger box: the Full Mechanics Aerial

7. Full Mechanics 1/100 Gundam Aerial

The same Aerial at 1/100 scale in Bandai's Full Mechanics line, ¥3,800 before tax, released April 2023 (Official images). Bandai's page says it adds a raised, plated shell unit that the HG does not reproduce. That makes it a "next one" gift for someone who built pick 2. It was $54.95 in stock at Gundam Planet and $53.99 as a pre-order at USA Gundam Store, estimated Q4 2026. Two cautions: the age mark is 15 and over, and a 1/100 kit stands taller than the HG beside it. Our Gunpla scale guide shows the size gap.

Will a new kit arrive before Christmas?

Not for the December kit we checked, and only maybe for the November one. Bandai's English pages give a Japanese release month; US shops then post their own arrival estimate, also by month. We read both for two upcoming kits on Oct 31.

Timeline of the HG Gundam Ashtaron's Nov 28 Japan release and December US estimate, and the MG Liberty Astray Red Frame's December release and 2027 US estimates, against December 25 Diagram: PlamoDesk. Source: Bandai English item pages and Gundam Planet and USA Gundam Store listings, Oct 31.

The HG 1/144 Gundam Ashtaron is scheduled for November 2026 at ¥3,600 before tax (Official images); Bandai's Japanese page gives the day, November 28. Gundam Planet's pre-order page says "December 2026 Arrival" and calls that the official North American distributor's estimate, adding: "It is possible this date will be delayed." That could mean days after the Japan release or a month after, and it does not tell you before or after Dec 25. Our HG Virsago and Ashtaron release post has the kit itself.

The MG 1/100 Gundam Liberty Astray Red Frame is scheduled for December 2026 in Japan at ¥7,500 before tax (Official images). Gundam Planet estimates January 2027 at $94.95, and USA Gundam Store says first quarter 2027 at $92.99: both later than Bandai's December month, and both after Christmas. The rest of that month is in our December 2026 release list.

What we don't know yet: whether the Ashtaron lands in US shops before or after Dec 25, and whether any of these seven prices change for Black Friday.

If you do not know what they own

A gift card avoids every problem above. USA Gundam Store sold cards at $10, $20, $25, $50, $100 and $150 on Oct 31. We did not find a gift card in Gundam Planet's search.

Two things to skip. First, kits from marketplace sellers far below these prices: some are copies, and our guide to spotting bootleg Gunpla lists the checks. Second, a Perfect Grade or large Master Grade as a surprise. We would not give one unasked: they are long builds, and the MG on this page is marked 15 and over.

What builders say

When a buyer asked r/Gunpla what to add to a new builder's kit in June, one reply backed the tweezers that come in the Entry Tool Set:

"I was going to say tweezer set as well. That's just one of those qol that you don't know how good it is till you have it." u/Walican132 on r/Gunpla, June 2026

Another reply in that thread put "a bunch of Action Bases" second on its list, after pour-type markers (u/Zwangsjacke). And in an August thread, a buyer with a $100 budget asked what beats their brother's GodHand PN-125. The answers settled on the SPN-120, with a warning attached:

"Godhand is very wildly hyped but 90% of users don't know how to use it properly." u/soy77 on r/Gunpla, August 2026

GodHand's plastic-only limit from pick 3 is the note worth taping to the box.

Analysis: where the seven gifts were in stock

Grid of 15 US shop listings for seven Gunpla gift picks, marking ten in stock, two pre-orders and three that could not be ordered Diagram: PlamoDesk. Source: the shop listings linked in each pick, checked Oct 31.

Stock split along a clear line. Gundam Planet had both Aerial kits on the shelf, while USA Gundam Store sold them only as pre-orders. USA Gundam Store had both marker items, which Gundam Planet could not sell. The SPN-120 was the reverse: in stock at Newtype and Gundam Planet, out at USA Gundam Store.

The total for a full first-timer bundle (picks 1, 2 and 6 at Gundam Planet) was $46.90 before shipping. Prices sat close together. The widest gap on one item was $4.04, on the marker set, and that cheaper listing was sold out. On every other item the shops were within $2. So pick the shop by stock, not price.

Verdict: Pick Gundam Planet if the gift is an Aerial kit, the tool set or the stand. Pick USA Gundam Store if it is one of the markers. Skip USA Gundam Store for the SPN-120 unless it restocks. Prices checked Oct 31.

Our take

Start with the Entry Tool Set and the HG Aerial for a first-timer, and the SPN-120 for a regular builder. The first pair was $38.95 in stock at one shop on Oct 31. The nipper was $61.75 to $62.00 at two shops, and it is the item the r/Gunpla thread told a $100 buyer to get. Leave the MG Liberty Astray Red Frame off a Christmas list: both shops estimated 2027. The HG Ashtaron is a gamble on a December estimate. If you know their shelf better than we do, ignore all of this and buy the kit they keep mentioning. We recheck these prices the week of Nov 23, before Black Friday.

How we checked this

On the night of Oct 31 (Vietnam time; the evening of Oct 30 in US time zones) we opened Bandai's English item page for each Bandai item and GodHand's Japanese page for the nipper, and copied price, release date and age mark. We then opened each item at Gundam Planet, USA Gundam Store and, for the nipper, Newtype, and copied the price and stock label shown. On the morning of Nov 1 (the evening of Oct 31 in the US) we reopened all 15 listings, the three pre-order pages for the two upcoming kits, the Action Base 1 page and the gift card listings: every price, stock label and arrival estimate on this page was unchanged. Reddit was read through the Arctic Shift archive. We have not built or used these items.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will Gundam Planet ship my gift if the order also has a pre-order in it? Not until everything in it is available. Gundam Planet's MG Liberty Astray Red Frame pre-order page says an entire order will not ship until all items become available, and that kit was estimated for January 2027 on Oct 31. Put in-stock gifts in a separate order from any pre-order, or the wrapped box waits for the slowest item.

Do USA Gundam Store gift cards come in the mail? No, they come by email. USA Gundam Store's gift card page says each card arrives by email with instructions to redeem it at checkout, and that there is no processing fee. That makes the gift card the one item on this page that shipping cannot delay, which matters in the last week before a holiday.

Can the GodHand SPN-120 cut clear Gunpla parts? Only thin ones. GodHand's own page limits clear and semi-clear PS plastic to 1 mm or less, against 3 mm for regular plastic, because clear plastic is harder. Replies in the August r/Gunpla thread describe the double-cut method: an old nipper cuts first, away from the part, and the SPN-120 trims what is left.

Which Action Base fits a 1/100 kit like the Full Mechanics Aerial? Action Base 1. Gundam Planet listed the black Action Base 1 for 1/100 kits at $9.95 on Oct 31, two dollars more than the Action Base 2 in pick 6. Bandai describes Action Base 2 as made for 1/144 kits such as HGUC, so pair it with the HG and the larger base with the Full Mechanics kit.

How fast does an in-stock gift ship from USA Gundam Store? In stock items there said "Usually ships in 2-3 business days" on Oct 31, on the Entry Tool Set, Action Base 2 and marker pages alike. That is dispatch, not delivery; transit time is extra. Pre-order items show an estimated arrival instead, such as Nov 3 for the HG Aerial.
