Single Blade Nipper Guide: GodHand Ultimate vs Blade One

Single blade nipper compared for Gunpla: GodHand's Ultimate cuts cleaner but only 1 mm clear gates; the Blade One takes 2 mm and cost $49.34 on Oct 25.

TL;DR: GodHand makes two single-edge nippers: the Ultimate Nipper SPN-120 (¥6,490 with tax, $61.75 at Newtype) and the Blade One GH-PN-120 (¥4,840, $49.34). The Ultimate is limited to 1 mm clear gates; the Blade One takes 2 mm and GodHand calls it tougher. DSPIAE's ST-A 3.0 was $39.95. Checked Oct 25, 2026.

Text card comparing two GodHand single blade nippers: the Ultimate at 6,490 yen and the Blade One at 4,840 yen, with their clear plastic limits

A single blade nipper is a finishing tool for gates, and GodHand's own pages fence it in hard: 3 mm of plastic at most, and no runner tags or plastic board. The decision is which one: the Ultimate with GodHand's thinner blade, or the Blade One for a tougher blade and thicker clear gates.

Verdict: Pick the Blade One if this is your first single blade nipper or you build clear parts. Pick the Ultimate if your gates are thin and you want GodHand's thinner blade. Skip both until you own a cheap double-blade nipper for rough cuts (our advice). Prices checked Oct 25.

Key Takeaways

  • First single blade nipper: the GodHand Blade One, ¥4,840 with tax in Japan, $49.34 at Newtype.
  • Thinner blade: the Ultimate SPN-120, ¥6,490, $61.75, but only 1 mm on clear plastic.
  • Gates only: GodHand says no plastic board, runner tags, parts or dowels, and nothing over 3 mm.
  • Left-handed: the Blade One L cost $3 to $7.68 more than the standard one at the same shop.
  • Cheaper option: DSPIAE ST-A 3.0, $39.95 at Newtype; we found no maker spec page for it.

Overview: single blade nipper vs a normal nipper

A normal hobby nipper has two blades that meet in the middle. A single blade nipper has one sharp edge that cuts down onto a flat side. GodHand's product pages call this 片刃仕様, "single-edge specification" (our translation), for both of its models.

The trade is sharpness for strength. GodHand's Ultimate page warns that the blade "gets thinner toward the tip and breaks more easily," and asks you to cut "near the middle of the blade" (our translation). Its Q&A page calls the Ultimate a nipper made only for plastic model gates and runners.

Tamiya is the obvious other maker to check. Its 74035 and 74123 side cutters are sold for plastic model sprues with "thinner, sharper-pointed blades," but neither page we read says single-edge, so they are not in this comparison.

Both pages list the same 120 mm length and 60 g weight. On paper, the difference is the blade.

Blade: Ultimate vs Blade One

GodHand describes the Blade One as "the standard model of single-edge nippers" and says it is "tougher and easier to handle than the Ultimate Nipper" (our translation). The reason is the blade: it is thicker, which GodHand says leaves the cut face slightly pressed on the anvil side. Our reading: a small cost in finish for a sturdier blade.

The Ultimate keeps the thinner blade. GodHand's page limits it to gates of 3 mm or less in PS, PP, ABS or PE plastic, and lists what not to cut: plastic board, runner tags, parts and dowels.

Winner on toughness: Blade One, because GodHand itself calls it the tougher of the two.

Clear parts: Ultimate vs Blade One

Clear and semi-clear PS is harder than normal PS, GodHand's Q&A explains, so the Ultimate is limited to clear gates of 1 mm or less. The Blade One page doubles that: it handles clear plastic "Φ2mmまで" (up to 2 mm) where the Ultimate stops at "Φ1mmまで".

If you build clear-color editions or kits with clear parts, that 1 mm gap decides it.

Winner on clear parts: Blade One, because its clear limit is twice the Ultimate's.

Price: what the US shops asked on Oct 25

Newtype's product pages listed the Ultimate at $61.75, the Blade One at $49.34 and the left-handed Blade One L at $57.02, all in stock. Search results at two other shops were close: Gundam Planet had the Ultimate at $62.00 and the Blade One at $54.00; USA Gundam Store had the Blade One at $49.99.

Desk note: In Japan the Blade One costs 75% of the Ultimate's maker price (¥4,840 vs ¥6,490). At Newtype on Oct 25 it cost 80% ($49.34 vs $61.75). The left-handed Blade One L added $7.68 at Newtype, $4 at Gundam Planet and $3 at USA Gundam Store. Left-handed builders should compare shops before anyone else does.

The cheaper single blade nippers come from other brands. Newtype listed the DSPIAE ST-A 3.0 at $39.95, and USA Gundam Store's search showed its own USAGS Single Blade Nipper 2.0 at $34.99. Newtype says the DSPIAE gives "a near GodHand-like cut at a fraction of the cost." That is the shop's claim, and we found no maker page with cutting limits for either nipper.

Winner on price: the USAGS Single Blade Nipper 2.0 at $34.99 in USA Gundam Store's search, then the DSPIAE ST-A 3.0 at $37.99 to $39.95.

What builders say

Three r/Gunpla posts from 2026, read through the Arctic Shift archive:

"I'm looking to buy a pair of single-blade nippers, as I currently only have the Tamiya Side Cutters." u/CursedHunger on r/Gunpla, July 2026

"But now i want to get a single bladed nipper, but seeing as they are pretty expensive, i don't want to buy a bad one." u/apfelkuchen42069 on r/Gunpla, May 2026

"Godhand social media posted an announcement that they're showing off their new redesigned Godhand ultimate (GH-SPN-120) nippers, along with some other new products, at the 64th All Japan Model & Hobby Show 2026." u/sevenvenom on r/Gunpla, September 2026

Two buyers asking first, one rumor after. GodHand's product page we read says nothing about a redesign.

Analysis: who should buy which

If this is your first single blade nipper, pick the Blade One. It is $12.41 cheaper than the Ultimate at Newtype, and GodHand itself calls it tougher.

If your gates are thin and you will keep the Ultimate for gates only, as GodHand's page asks, pick the Ultimate. Our advice: that rule is easier to keep with a second, cheaper nipper on the desk.

If you are left-handed, price the Blade One L at all three shops; the gap ran from $3 to $7.68.

If you want a single blade nipper under $40, the DSPIAE ST-A 3.0 or the USAGS 2.0 are the options we found. Neither came with a maker spec we could read.

Not a first tool, either way. Our advice is a cheap nipper for the rough cut first; Gundam Planet listed Bandai's Entry Nipper at $12.00 on Oct 25.

Our take

Start with the GodHand Blade One; buy the Ultimate only when you know your gates are thin. The Blade One costs ¥4,840 against ¥6,490 and was $49.34 at Newtype on Oct 25. GodHand rates it for 2 mm clear plastic against 1 mm. If GodHand releases the redesigned Ultimate that one Reddit post describes, we will compare the new page. We recheck these prices with the tools pillar's next update.

What we don't know yet: whether a redesigned Ultimate Nipper is coming; the only report we found is a Reddit post citing GodHand social media. We also found no maker page with cutting limits for the DSPIAE ST-A 3.0 or the USAGS 2.0.

How we checked this

On Oct 25, 2026 we read GodHand's Japanese product pages for the GH-SPN-120 and GH-PN-120 and its Q&A page, Tamiya's English pages for items 74035 and 74123, and Newtype's product pages for four nippers. Gundam Planet and USA Gundam Store prices come from their search results the same day; their product pages returned HTTP 429 (rate limited). Quotes come from the Arctic Shift Reddit archive; its comment lookups returned a timeout and a rate-limit error, so all three are post texts. We have not tested these nippers.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a single blade nipper? A nipper with one sharp edge that cuts against a flat side, which GodHand calls a single-edge (片刃) design. GodHand sells it for plastic model gates only: its Ultimate Nipper SPN-120 cuts PS, PP, ABS and PE plastic up to 3 mm, and nothing else.

GodHand Ultimate or Blade One: which should I buy? The Blade One if you build clear parts or want a tougher blade: GodHand rates it for 2 mm clear plastic against 1 mm for the Ultimate, at 4,840 yen with tax versus 6,490 yen. Newtype had them at $49.34 and $61.75 on Oct 25.

Can a single blade nipper cut runners? Only thin ones. GodHand calls its Ultimate a gate and runner nipper, but limits it to 3 mm of PS, PP, ABS or PE plastic and says not to cut plastic board, runner tags, parts or dowels with it. Our advice: make the first rough cut with a cheaper double-blade nipper.

Is there a left-handed single blade nipper? Yes. GodHand sells a left-handed Blade One, GH-PN-120-L, and its Q&A lists a left-handed Ultimate, SPN-120-L. On Oct 25 the Blade One L was $57.02 at Newtype, $58.00 at Gundam Planet and $52.99 at USA Gundam Store, $3 to $7.68 above the standard Blade One.

Is the DSPIAE single blade nipper good? We have not tested it. Newtype listed the DSPIAE ST-A 3.0 Single Blade Nipper at $39.95 on Oct 25 and says it gives a near GodHand-like cut, a shop claim. USA Gundam Store's search showed it at $37.99 the same day.

Why did my single blade nipper chip? GodHand's Ultimate page says the blade gets thinner toward the tip and breaks more easily there, and asks you to cut near the middle of the blade. It also limits clear and semi-clear PS, which is harder, to gates of 1 mm or less.
