Card summarising Nu Gundam kits on Bandai's list: 53 items, 8 regular kits compared, Japan prices from 660 to 66,000 yen

Same robot, eight boxes. Bandai's regular Nu Gundam Gunpla runs from a ¥660 SD kit to a ¥66,000 PG UNLEASHED, with tax in Japan: exactly 100 times the price. Your decision is which grade fits your first or next build. For most US builders that means the RG or the Entry Grade, and on our check day Gundam Planet had the RG in stock while the Entry Grade was sold out. If the grade names are new to you, our HG vs RG vs MG comparison explains them with the RX-78-2.

TL;DR: First build: the Entry Grade (¥1,100 with tax in Japan) or the SD EX-Standard (¥660). Best value on a shelf: the RG, $56.95 and in stock at Gundam Planet. Bigger build: the MG Ver.Ka, if you can find it. Top of the line: the PG UNLEASHED, about $690 in the US. Bandai's list has 53 Nu Gundam items in all, and 28 are limited editions. Checked Oct 11 and 12, 2026.

Verdict: Pick the RG if you want one Nu on the shelf. Pick the Entry Grade if it is your first kit. Skip the HGUC unless you find it cheap.

Key Takeaways

  • Eight regular kits across SD, EG, BB Senshi, HGUC, RG, MG (twice) and PG UNLEASHED.
  • Japan prices with tax: 660 yen (SD EX-Standard) to 66,000 yen (PG UNLEASHED).
  • US prices on Oct 12: $12.95 (SD EX-Standard) to $689.95 (PG UNLEASHED) at Gundam Planet.
  • In stock that day at Gundam Planet: SD EX-Standard, RG and PG UNLEASHED. The EG, HGUC and MG Ver.Ka were not. By Oct 15 the SD EX-Standard was sold out there too.
  • Limited editions: 28 of 53 items carry a Gundam Side-F, event, Premium Bandai or Gundam Base label.

Overview: which Nu Gundam Gunpla exists

Card summarising Nu Gundam kits: 53 items listed by Bandai, 8 regular kits compared, Japan prices from 660 to 66,000 yen, 28 limited-label items Graphic: PlamoDesk. Data: Bandai Hobby Site (Japan) item list, checked October 11, 2026.

The Nu Gundam is the RX-93 from Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack, released in 1988, according to the official site of the life-size statue in Fukuoka. Bandai files its kits under that title on its Hobby Site.

Bandai's Japanese item list has 53 items with the RX-93 Nu Gundam in the name, not counting the Hi-Nu. The oldest is a 1/144 kit dated December 1987; the newest is a PG UNLEASHED fin funnel and clear body set dated December 2026. Many are variants: clear colors, metallic coating and titanium finish versions, heavy weapon versions, add-on parts and decal sheets.

Eight of them are the regular, non-limited kits most US buyers look for:

Prices in this table are the Japanese list prices with 10% tax as of Oct 11, so the kits can be compared on one basis. Where a kit has an English Bandai page, it shows the price before tax, for example 1,000 yen for the EG and 60,000 yen for the PG UNLEASHED. Our Nu Gundam kit page lists every version with links.

Bar chart of seven Nu Gundam kits by Japan price with tax: SD EX-Standard 660 yen, Entry Grade 1,100 yen, BB Senshi 1,320 yen, HGUC 2,970 yen, RG 4,950 yen, MG 5,500 yen and MG Ver.Ka 8,140 yen Diagram: PlamoDesk. Data: Bandai Hobby Site (Japan) item list, current prices with 10% tax, checked October 11, 2026. The PG UNLEASHED at 66,000 yen is left off the chart.

Desk note: Seven of the eight regular kits cost less than ¥10,000 in Japan. The eighth, the PG UNLEASHED, costs about 8 times the MG Ver.Ka. Its LED unit alone lists at ¥15,400 with tax: the light costs more than any of the other seven kits.

The small kits: SD, Entry Grade and BB Senshi

SD Gundam EX-Standard 016. The cheapest Nu Gundam at 600 yen before tax. Bandai's page lists a beam rifle, beam saber, shield and foil seal, and says the kit has 3mm joints in various places. Gundam Planet had it in stock at $12.95 on Oct 12. On Oct 15 it was sold out there.

Entry Grade Nu Gundam. Bandai's beginner line. The item page lists touch gates you can remove by hand without nippers, and a marking sticker for the emblem on the left shoulder and shield. It comes with a beam rifle and shield. Bandai also says it can hold the armament of the HGUC Nu Gundam, sold separately. At Gundam Planet it was $14.95 but sold out that day.

BB Senshi 387. An older SD kit, dated January 2014, at 1,320 yen with tax. Neither Gundam Planet nor USA Gundam Store showed it when we searched on Oct 12. On Oct 14, USA Gundam Store listed it at $14.99 on sale, out of stock.

HGUC and RG: the 1/144 choices

HGUC 1/144 RX-93 Nu Gundam. Dated March 2008 and 2,970 yen with tax. On Oct 12, the HGUC Nu Gundam listings we found were sold out: $34.95 at Gundam Planet and $32.00 for the HGUC #86 at Gunpla Style. USA Gundam Store listed a different HGUC, the #93 Heavy Weapon System version, at $36.99 as a preorder.

RG 1/144 Nu Gundam. Dated August 2019 and 4,950 yen with tax, for ages 15 and over. Gunpla Style's listing gives the box contents: six fin funnels, a beam rifle, a shield with beam cannon, two beam sabers, a missile and a sticker sheet. It was in stock at two US shops that day: $56.95 at Gundam Planet and $56.00 at Gunpla Style.

Gundam Planet's RG page showed 40 customer reviews that day. Three of them, from different years:

  • midnightstar (January 2024): "The articulation on this kit is some of the best I've seen in a 1/144 kit."
  • valentinesbats (September 2023), on the kit's minor issues: "that the fin funnels are a bit floppy when mounted on the back"
  • The C. (September 2026): "Only part that I seem to have trouble with is the pistons in the knees but bending the legs in sections slowly seems to solve this issue."

MG and PG UNLEASHED: the big kits

Table comparing Japan prices with tax and Gundam Planet prices on October 12, 2026: SD EX-Standard 660 yen and 12.95 dollars in stock, Entry Grade 1,100 yen and 14.95 dollars sold out, HGUC 2,970 yen and 34.95 dollars sold out, RG 4,950 yen and 56.95 dollars in stock, MG Ver.Ka 8,140 yen and 88.95 dollars not available, PG UNLEASHED 66,000 yen and 689.95 dollars in stock Diagram: PlamoDesk. Sources: Bandai Hobby Site (Japan) item list and Gundam Planet product pages, checked October 12, 2026.

MG RX-93 Nu Gundam (2000). The first Master Grade Nu, dated December 2000 and 5,500 yen with tax. A search for "MG Nu Gundam" at Gundam Planet and USA Gundam Store on Oct 12 returned other kits and add-on parts, but not this one. On Oct 14, Gundam Planet listed it at $60.95, sold out.

MG 1/100 Nu Gundam Ver.Ka. Dated December 2012, 7,400 yen before tax. The Ver.Ka line carries the details and markings of mechanical designer Hajime Katoki. Bandai's page lists 25 runners and 3 seal sheets. Gundam Planet showed it at $88.95 but not available that day.

PG UNLEASHED 1/60 Nu Gundam. Released in January 2026 at 60,000 yen before tax. Bandai presents it as a Gunpla 45th anniversary kit and says it is the first time the suit's internal structure is shown in 1/60. The item page adds two types of beam saber and a New Hyper Bazooka to the beam rifle and shield. Newtype's listing says over 2,400 parts and includes standing Amuro Ray and Chan Agi figures. The separate LED unit, which lights the psycho frame, runs on 4 AA batteries.

US prices on Oct 12 were close together: $689.95 at Gundam Planet, $689.99 at USA Gundam Store and $690 at Newtype, all in stock. In Newtype's Q&A for the kit, ZeonicTitan answered a 2025 question about the expected price: "When JPY retail is 60k + tax, $650 is about right for international markets." The final US price landed about $40 higher.

Limited editions: why there are so many

Bar chart of the 53 Nu Gundam items on Bandai's Japanese list by sale label: 25 regular release, 11 Gundam Side-F limited, 7 event limited, 7 Premium Bandai, 3 Gundam Base limited Diagram: PlamoDesk. Data: sale labels on Bandai Hobby Site (Japan) item list, checked October 11, 2026.

28 of the 53 Nu Gundam items carry a limited sales label. The biggest group, 11 items, carries the GUNDAM SIDE-F label, and five of those are RX-93ff versions: the design of the life-size Nu Gundam statue at LaLaport Fukuoka. The statue's official site gives its height as 24.8 m at the highest point and describes the RX-93ff as the Nu Gundam newly fitted with a long-range fin funnel. The site lists the RG 1/144 RX-93ff Nu Gundam at 5,280 yen with tax, released April 2022.

The rest are event kits (7), Premium Bandai items (7) such as the RG Nu Gundam HWS, and Gundam Base kits (3). Our exclusives tracker lists limited kits by year.

Analysis: which Nu Gundam to buy

  1. First kit or a gift for a child: the Entry Grade. Its page lists touch gates that come off without nippers, and Bandai marks it for ages 8 and up. If it is sold out, the SD EX-Standard is the cheapest stand-in at about $13, though Gundam Planet had sold out of it too by Oct 15.
  2. Best value for a display: the RG. It was in stock at two US shops at about $56, comes with all six fin funnels, and its reviews praise the articulation. Budget a stand: Gunpla Style says the Action Base is sold separately, and reviewers mention floppy funnels on the back.
  3. A bigger, more detailed build: the MG Ver.Ka, at 1/100 with Katoki's markings. It was hard to find in the US on our check day.
  4. The centerpiece: the PG UNLEASHED, about $690 plus $179.99 for the LED unit at USA Gundam Store.

We would skip the HGUC unless you find it cheap: it dates from 2008, costs more than the EG in Japan, and was sold out at both US shops we checked.

Our take

Buy the RG Nu Gundam: $56.95 at Gundam Planet, in stock, with all six fin funnels. It sits mid-range at ¥4,950 with tax in Japan, and two US shops had it at about $56 on Oct 12. Plan for a stand and handle the funnels gently, as reviewers note. First kit ever? Go Entry Grade. Want 1/100? The MG Ver.Ka, if you can find it. The PG UNLEASHED makes sense only if a $690 kit is a planned purchase, not an impulse.

How we checked this

On October 11, 2026 we listed every item with the Nu Gundam in its name in Bandai's Japanese item list, with its sale label and current price with tax. On Oct 12 we read Bandai's English item pages for the EG, SD EX-Standard, MG Ver.Ka, PG UNLEASHED and its LED unit. We also read the Japanese pages for the HGUC, RG, MG (2000) and BB Senshi 387, which have no English page. Statue facts come from its official site. US prices and stock come from Gundam Planet, USA Gundam Store, Newtype and Gunpla Style product pages the same day; the quotes come from Gundam Planet's RG review section and Newtype's PG UNLEASHED Q&A. We have not built these kits.
