The newest Destiny Gundam Gunpla is not a Master Grade but an SD: the MGSD Destiny Gundam, out in Japan in February 2026, more than 18 years after both MG Destiny kits. So decide first whether you want a 1/144, a 1/100 or the chunky MGSD; age and price run in different directions here.
Verdict: Pick the HGCE Destiny Gundam for a first Destiny at $26. Pick the RG if you want more detail at 1/144 for $9 more. Pick the MGSD if you want the newest kit. Pick the MG only if you want a 1/100 Destiny. Skip the Spec II & Zeus set unless you want an $88 centerpiece. Prices checked Oct 25.
Key Takeaways
- First kit: the HGCE 1/144 Destiny Gundam, $26.00 at Newtype.

- Oldest of the six: both Master Grades, the MG Destiny and the MG Extreme Blast Mode, from October 2007.
- SEED FREEDOM: the HG Destiny Gundam Spec II & Zeus Silhouette set is ¥7,920 with tax and $88.00.

Overview: Destiny Gundam Gunpla by grade
GUNDAM Official says the "Destiny Gundam is the latest MS developed by ZAFT to put an end to the battle between the Earth Alliance Forces," and that "Dullindal gives the Destiny Gundam to Shinn Asuka." It is the hero suit of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY. A Spec II version returns in the film Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM.
Bandai's list has the original Destiny in five grades that Newtype carried on Oct 25. The HGCE 1/144 Destiny Gundam is from May 2019 at ¥2,640 with tax; US shops title it "HGCE 224 ZGMF-X42 Destiny Gundam (Revive)". The RG 1/144 ZGMF-X42S Destiny Gundam dates from April 2013 at ¥3,080. The MG 1/100 Destiny Gundam and the MG 1/100 Destiny Gundam Extreme Blast Mode both came out in October 2007, at ¥5,720 and ¥7,700. The MGSD Destiny Gundam is from February 2026 at ¥4,950 with tax.

Price: HGCE vs RG vs MG Destiny Gundam
At Newtype on Oct 25, the HGCE Destiny was $26.00, the RG $35.00 and the MG $65.00. USA Gundam Store's product page had the MG at $64.99, so the 1/100 kit costs the same at both shops.
Desk note: In Japan the MGSD Destiny costs only ¥770 less than the MG Destiny (¥4,950 against ¥5,720 with tax). At Newtype the gap was $13.70 ($51.30 against $65.00), thanks to a markdown on the MGSD. The RG is ¥440 above the HGCE in Japan and $9 above it at Newtype. For a US builder, the cheap step is HGCE to RG; the expensive one is RG to MG.
Winner on price: the HGCE Destiny Gundam, at $26.00.
Age: the MGSD Destiny is the newest kit
The two Master Grades share a launch month, October 2007, and no standard MG Destiny has come since. The RG followed in April 2013, the HGCE in May 2019. Then came the MGSD, which Bandai's English schedule dates to the 21st of February 2026 at ¥4,500 before tax. Our MGSD Destiny Gundam kit page tracks it, and Newtype lists its US release as April 2026.
Winner on age: the MGSD, by almost seven years over the HGCE.

The SEED FREEDOM kit: Destiny Gundam Spec II & Zeus Silhouette
The HG 1/144 Destiny Gundam Spec II & Zeus Silhouette went on sale in Japan on the 23rd of November 2024, at "7,920 JPY (tax included)", GUNDAM Official said. The same post calls it "a massive kit with a total length of over 500 mm" and says the Zeus Silhouette "can individually transform into an MA form." Our Spec II & Zeus Silhouette kit page has the schedule entry.
Newtype had the set at $88.00 on Oct 25, with a January 2025 US release date. That is $62 more than the HGCE Destiny. A Spec II without the Zeus pack exists only as a Premium Bandai item: the HG Destiny Gundam Spec II in final battle colors, listed for August 2025 at ¥2,970 with tax.
Winner on display size: the Spec II & Zeus Silhouette, at over 500 mm long.

Analysis: who should buy which Destiny Gundam Gunpla
If this is your first kit, pick the HGCE Destiny Gundam. It is the cheapest standard Destiny in our table at $26.00.
If you already built an HG and want more detail at the same size, pick the RG. It costs $9 more at Newtype and stays at 1/144.
If you like SD proportions but want a modern kit, pick the MGSD. It is the newest Destiny of all, and the Newtype markdown put it $13.70 under the MG.
If you want a 1/100 Destiny, the MG is the only standard choice. Pick the Extreme Blast Mode only if you want that version; it is $14 more at Newtype.
If you want the Heine Westenfluss custom, Bandai's list has an HGCE version from July 2019 at the same ¥2,640 as the standard HGCE. The MG version was a Gundam Base item (July 2024, ¥7,590 with tax).
Few things built from the same robot span $26 to $88. This one does.
Our take
Start with the HGCE Destiny Gundam; buy the MGSD if you want the newest kit. The HGCE is $26.00 at Newtype and the cheapest way into the suit. The MGSD, from February 2026, was $51.30 there after a markdown, $13.70 under a 2007 MG. Pick the MG only for 1/100. Ignore this if you came for the SEED FREEDOM look; then the $88.00 Spec II & Zeus set is the kit. We recheck these prices when Bandai lists a new standard Destiny kit.
What we don't know yet: whether Bandai plans a new Master Grade or a standalone general-release HG Spec II. Nothing in its list, English schedule or the GUNDAM Official pages we read says so. We also could not see whether Newtype's MGSD markdown has an end date.
How we checked this
On Oct 25 we listed the Destiny Gundam kits in our copy of Bandai Hobby Site Japan's item list (read Oct 11; Bandai's site showed a maintenance page on Oct 25) and in our copy of its English schedule. We read GUNDAM Official's Destiny Gundam mecha page and its post on the Spec II & Zeus Silhouette, six Newtype product pages, one Gundam Planet product page and one USA Gundam Store product page. The Arctic Shift Reddit archive returned an error (HTTP 422), so this article has no builder quotes. We have not built these kits.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much is the MGSD Destiny Gundam in yen? 4,500 yen before tax on Bandai's English schedule, or 4,950 yen with tax in its Japanese list. It came out in Japan on February 21, 2026. On Oct 25 Newtype had it at $51.30, marked down from $54, and Gundam Planet at $54.95.
Which Destiny Gundam Gunpla should I buy first? The HGCE 1/144 Destiny Gundam from May 2019: 2,640 yen with tax in Japan and $26.00 in stock at Newtype on Oct 25. It is the cheapest of the six Newtype kits we checked. US shops sell it as the HGCE 224 Revive.
RG or MG Destiny Gundam: which is newer? The RG. The RG 1/144 ZGMF-X42S Destiny Gundam came out in April 2013 at 3,080 yen with tax; the MG 1/100 Destiny Gundam in October 2007 at 5,720 yen. On Oct 25, Newtype had the RG at $35.00 and the MG at $65.00.
What is the difference between the MG Destiny and the Extreme Blast Mode? Two separate 2007 Master Grade kits, both from October 2007. The MG 1/100 Destiny Gundam is 5,720 yen with tax; the MG Extreme Blast Mode is 7,700 yen. Newtype says it is based on Shinn Asuka's second suit and listed it at $79.00.
Is there an HG Destiny Gundam Spec II on its own? Not as a standard kit. The standard release is the HG 1/144 Destiny Gundam Spec II & Zeus Silhouette set (November 2024, 7,920 yen with tax). A standalone HG Spec II in final battle colors was a Premium Bandai item, listed for August 2025 at 2,970 yen.
Is there a PG Destiny Gundam? No. Our Oct 11 copy of Bandai's Japanese item list has no Perfect Grade Destiny Gundam. The standard 1/100 options are the two October 2007 Master Grade kits and an older 2005 1/100 kit; MG Heine and clear-color versions were event or Gundam Base items.
