SEED FREEDOM ZERO Gunpla: The First Kits Bandai Announced

Bandai's Japanese list has five SEED FREEDOM ZERO Gunpla items so far: four HG kits and one option parts set, dated December 2026 to April 2027. For a US builder, the choice is now which preorder to place. On Oct 16, Gundam Planet listed all four HG kits from $26.95, while Bandai's English pages were still not up. The odd detail: GUNDAM Official's own Comic Con report names an "Infinite Justice Gundam (SEED FREEDOM ZERO Vers.)" that Bandai's list does not have.

Overview: the five SEED FREEDOM ZERO items on Bandai's list

Bandai's Japanese site has a series page for the film. On Oct 15 it held five items. Names below are our translations of Bandai's Japanese names; prices are Japan prices with 10% tax.

All five give a month, not a day. Three still carry a Tentative name (仮). The official image links go to Bandai's Japanese pages, because the English item pages returned "not found" on Oct 15 and again on Oct 16.

Four of the five already appear on Bandai's Japanese monthly schedules: the Murasame Kai in December, the Strike Freedom and the option parts set in January, the Infinite Justice in February. The February schedule lists the Infinite Justice with the general releases, not in its separate section for official online shop items. So nothing on Bandai's pages marks it as a Premium Bandai item. The four HG kits add up to ¥13,200 with tax. Add the option parts set and the five items come to ¥18,920.

The film: Japan on Jan 15, North America in February

The film's Japanese official site gives the date: 2027年1月15日(金), Friday, January 15, 2027. GUNDAM Official says the film is scheduled for North American theaters in February 2027, with no day yet. It is a prequel to SEED FREEDOM, set between DESTINY and FREEDOM.

The English dub keeps its leads. Matthew Erickson voices Shinn Asuka, Matt Hill voices Kira Yamato and Sam Vincent voices Athrun Zala. The teaser visual centers on Shinn.

GUNDAM Official's story text sets up the kit list. The Strike Freedom is stolen by persons unknown from the COMPS base on Onogoro Island. The Strike Freedom and Infinite Justice return from DESTINY, and the GOUF Ignited Custom is new. The theme for buyers: old suits, new versions.

Analysis: what each kit adds, per Bandai's item pages

Our summary of Bandai's Japanese item pages, not Bandai's wording:

HG Strike Freedom SEED FREEDOM ZERO Ver. Bandai says details come later. The page lists the SEED Action System, a build aimed at the Strike Freedom's signature poses, and gradient-molded beam saber effects. In the box: two beam rifles, a beam saber set, hand parts and one sticker sheet.

HG Infinite Justice Gundam & Booster Unit. A newly sculpted large booster unit and a newly sculpted shield. Beam saber effects are gradient-molded too. The box adds beam effect parts and a lead wire.

HG GOUF Ignited Custom. SEED Action System. The sword stows and extends without swapping parts. The whip comes in two versions, extended and curved, with its heated state in molded color. The shield gatling's barrels rotate.

HG Murasame Kai (Initial Production Type). Colors in molded plastic, a new mock-battle rifle and a mobile armor (MA) form that needs some swapped parts.

Option Parts Set Gunpla 21. Details later. Bandai says it includes joint parts that let the gear fit various other kits.

Desk note: Our copy of Bandai's Japanese list prices the 2005 HG Strike Freedom at ¥1,760 today and the 2016 HGCE at ¥2,420. The SEED FREEDOM ZERO Ver. is ¥2,970, the same as the 2024 HG Mighty Strike Freedom. The Infinite Justice is the outlier: ¥4,070 is ¥990 more than the 2024 HG Infinite Justice Type II, for a booster Bandai calls newly sculpted.

The GOUF Ignited Custom follows a recent kit closely. The HG Gouf Ignited (Heine Westenfluss Custom) of July 2026 lists the same stow-and-extend sword and the same two-version whip with heated molded color. The Custom costs ¥330 more at ¥3,190. What its page adds is the rotating shield gatling. Same robot family, one more spinning part.

The film's popularity is the background. GUNDAM Official says SEED FREEDOM earned more than 5 billion yen and drew 3 million admissions, the highest-grossing theatrical release in Gundam history.

What it means for US builders

Preorders are open. On Oct 15 we searched Gundam Planet and USA Gundam Store with sold-out products shown, and neither listed any of the five items. On Oct 16 the same searches found four of them. On Oct 17 USA Gundam Store listed all five:

USA Gundam Store also moved its Infinite Justice estimate from Q1 to Q2 2027 between Oct 16 and Oct 17.

Both shops call the Murasame Kai an Early Production Type; Bandai's Japanese name is 初期生産型, which we translate as Initial Production Type. Each Gundam Planet arrival month is one month after Bandai's Japanese month. Gundam Planet also lists four Masterlise Ichibansho figures from the film at $49.95 each and a QMSV Mini SEED Freedom Zero box at $20.95, and USA Gundam Store has the same four figures as $44.99 preorders. The figures beat the kits to our search results by one day.

The new Strike Freedom is $6 cheaper at Gundam Planet than the Mighty Strike Freedom, and $5 cheaper at USA Gundam Store, though both are ¥2,970 in Japan. The new kits are not out, so these are Gundam Planet customer reviews of the current HGCE versions of the same suits, read on Oct 15.

• The C. (February 2026), on the HGCE Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam, titled "Awesome gundam kit": "Honestly, this kit is worth it."

Two happy buyers, one loose joint. The new Strike Freedom page promises a build aimed at poses; whether it fixes the looseness, nobody can say before it ships.

What we don't know yet

Release days for all five items, and final names for three. Bandai's English pages: none exist yet. A Gundam Planet listing for Option Parts Set Gunpla 21. The North American release day of the film. And the fourth kit GUNDAM Official's Comic Con report names, an "Infinite Justice Gundam (SEED FREEDOM ZERO Vers.)": Bandai's series page has no such item, only the Strike Freedom SEED FREEDOM ZERO Ver.

Our take

Preorder the Strike Freedom first: $26.95 at Gundam Planet on Oct 17, arriving February 2027. It is the cheapest of the four new HG kits there, and USA Gundam Store's $26.99 listing only gives Q1 2027. In Japan, the headline Strike Freedom costs the same as the 2024 Mighty Strike Freedom, while the Infinite Justice set costs ¥990 more than its 2024 kit. If you only want one, the Strike Freedom comes first, in January. We check Bandai's English schedule and both shops again when the January 2027 English schedule goes up, and we plan a full kit guide closer to the North American release.

How we checked this

On Oct 15 we read Bandai's Japanese series page for the film, the five item pages and the December, January and February schedules, plus Bandai's English item pages (not found). Film dates come from the Japanese official site and GUNDAM Official's English news. US results come from both shops' search with sold-out items shown, read that evening. On Oct 16 we reread the series page, the item pages in both languages, the schedules and both shops, and opened the shops' product pages for the new listings. On Oct 17 we searched both shops again and read the product pages of every listed item, plus USA Gundam Store's Mighty Strike Freedom page. Older kit prices come from our copy of Bandai's Japanese item list (Oct 11). Reviews were read through Gundam Planet's review service.
